Significant Update from FAA on Hobbyist Drone/Model Aircraft Laws and Regulations
In April 2019, the FAA published an official withdrawal of their 2014 model aircraft interpretation.
On May 17, 2019, the FAA will start implementing the new regulations and laws.
Because of the changes from the 2018 FAA Reauthorization, Part 101’s Subpart E model aircraft regulations have been superseded. A giant reset button has been pressed for model aircraft flyer regulations.
If you are not flying drones under a CURRENT (not expired) FAA Part 107 certification, this affects you. Two of the items in the FAA Recreational Drone Law Summary include:
- Section 336 was repealed.
- Part 101 Sub-part E regulations are NO LONGER VALID. These were the recreational drone laws that governed hobbyists for quite some time.
