Handling Spam Messages on Facebook

Over the past year, we have seen a dramatic increase in spam on Facebook on our clients’ pages – especially in receiving fake messages.

Here is one example that is indicative of the messages we see:

We feel it’s important to report these fake profiles to Meta (Facebook) so that this can be flagged and hopefully reduce the number of messages being sent.

To report this fake message, click on View Profile.

One major indicator that this profile is not real is that there are no “friends” and no posts other than the profile picture.

At the profile page, click on the ellipse on the far right side of the page.

Click on Find Support or Report

Click on Fake Account.

Click on Hide All, and then Click on Block Profile.  Click Done.

We take it one step further and click on Block.

Click on Ban Sandy and New Profiles.  Then click on Confirm.

Return to the Message.

Click on ellipse to the right of the profile name.

Click on Stop Communication.

Click Block User and the next button.  Block the user.

Click on the exclamation point to move this message to Spam.

Then click on the trash can to delete the message.

You may need to refresh or reload the screen to see the message is gone.

Sometimes there may be a message with no profile information –

In this case, just mark the message as Spam and Delete the message.

You may need to refresh or reload the screen to see the message is gone.
